I personally love epistolary novels, so your found document idea appeals to me. My mind immediately went to having two independent found documents which are interwoven in the book to tell a complete story. I also began to wonder how that might translate to a radio podcast series with two voices doing the entries from the two journals. Just my thoughts, since you asked!
There’s who storytelling forums dedicated to epistolary storytelling out on the internet and I have heard some of it turned into very compelling audio dramas. Sadly most of it is in the creepy urban legend genre, which is very much to taste and, by it’s very nature, a bit derivative.
